Students are expected to apply for scholarships to help support their studies. There are a wide range of scholarships and awards. Please click here for the list from the School of Graduate Studies. Please be aware of the application deadlines and procedure. The graduate office may have internal deadlines for some scholarships and awards applications.
NSERC and OGS scholarships are the most important, as these are how the Canadian and Ontario governments support top students. Students who hold scholarships may receive additional funding from UTIAS, as follows.
Domestic students who have major external scholarships (at a minimum amount of 15,000 per year), such as NSERC, OGS, QEII-GSST, etc., will receive 12,000/year supplements, bringing their total support above the minimum funding level. Domestic students who have other external scholarships (less than $15,000 per year), will receive the minimum level of support plus up to 50% of the scholarship value inclusive of the scholarship, to a maximum total amount of support as that received by students with external scholarships valued at 15,000 (for 2013-14, the cap is 27,000, including fees).
International students who have major external scholarships, such as their own government’s scholarship programs, may also receive supplemental financial support at the discretion of the institute.
All external awards, major or otherwise must be disclosed to the UTIAS Graduate Office at the time of receipt of notification of the award.
The graduate office of UTIAS administrates scholarships and awards by collecting applications, ranking, nominating, and recommending award recipients through the UTIAS award committee.
The following is a list of some scholarships and awards applications with deadlines (2013-14). It is for information only, subject to change without notice. Updated information is available at the SGS web site or communicated to students by emails.
