Research Project Management Workshop

Major Canadian employers in engineering and aerospace have confirmed that aside from technical knowledge, project management is the skill that is in highest demand and it is a skill that most applicants lack. These employers are eager to recruit personnel that not only have technical skills, but have project management knowledge to smooth the transition into management roles and to lead teams and projects effectively. Project management is also highly applicable in an academic setting, where faculty are continuously managing multiple projects with competing priorities and a variety of personnel and stakeholders.
The RPMW will provide transferable management skills to students that can be used in the following settings:

  • industrial or academic positions,
  • supervisory roles, and
  • managing research projects and creating project plans.

The following deliverables will be created by attendees:

  • a research project charter,
  • a work breakdown structure for delineating roles and responsibilities to personnel or summer interns, and
  • another activity may be designed specific to your CREATE group.
