Area of Research: Aerodynamics and Aeroacoustics

Description of Duties:

The post-doctoral fellow will be part of a research team that will study noise generation from high-lift devices, specifically from the flap system of the wing. The fellow will perform experiments in an hybrid anechoic wind tunnel at the University of Toronto and will make use of advanced optical and microphone measurement techniques to better understand the nature of the noise sources and how they can be mitigated.

Furthermore, the fellow will be involved with the management and training of graduate students involved with the project and lead interactions with Bombardier, the industrial partner for the project. The fellow will be expected to write conference paper and journal manuscripts to archive key findings, as well as progress reports for the industrial partner.

Salary: $50,000-$65,000 per annum

Required qualifications:

Qualified candidates will possess a Ph.D. in Engineering along with experimental research experience in aerodynamics and/or aeroacoustics. Experience with particle image velocimetry (PIV), unsteady surface pressure and/or free-field sound measurements are considered an asset. Candidates should have a demonstrated record of original contributions in their research fields. Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary research group are required.

FTE: The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week for a full-time postdoctoral fellow (pro-rated for those holding a partial appointment) recognizing that the needs of the employee’s research and training and the needs of the supervisor’s research program may require flexibility in the performance of the employee’s duties and hours of work.

Employment as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto is covered by the terms of the CUPE 3902 Unit 5 Collective Agreement.
